ZINE CLUB + O Week + New Zines by The Lorax

Hello.

So in case you haven't already heard: we, the makers of MACDOODLE, have created a student group at Macquarie University called ZINE CLUB. And because we're lazy and can't be bothered making a separate blog/site for the club, both ZINE CLUB and MACDOODLE news is gonna be updated here.

We had a brilliant time at O week and want to thank everyone who signed up to ZINE CLUB. We think you are all incredibly good looking and can't wait to see you make some equally good looking zines.

Left to Right: Rocky, Bananaman & The Lorax at the ZINE CLUB O Week stall

ZINE CLUB is going to have a stall at smART arts festival (Saturday 4th April) and MCA zine fair (Sunday 24th May). Which means it'll be a good opportunity for all you ZINE CLUB members to sell/distribute your zines through our stall! Email macdoodlezine@gmail.com for more information.

Also, some exciting news is that NEXT READ, a new second hand bookshop on campus, has offered to distribute zines by our members on their counter. At the moment you can pick up a (new mini version) of my zine "Little Yellow Umbrella" for $1, but keep an eye out for a different zine every fortnight!

And finally, there are two new zines I have made. They are called: "Anecdotes" and "Dear Centrelink". They look like this:

Anecdotes features, well, anecdotes from my life including the (rather popular) story about time I tried to take a boy to Canberra against his will.
Dear Centrelink is more or less an open letter to the government agency that my life tends to revolve around.
Email if you want a copy. Trades always welcome.
Gotta go, dinner is burning.
Love from,
The Lorax

FIRST ISSUE

Hello. We have created MACDOODLE's first issue, and we have christened it: BORED AS BATSHIT. It features the doodles of Bananaman, Rocky Racoon and The Lorax. It is incredibly interesting. To obtain a copy, please email us. Otherwise, we are currently scheming to infiltrate O Week and may or may not be distributing copies during this period. By the way, it looks like this:

Also, our inbox is awaiting your doodles for our next issue. So send them here:

merci, gracias, grazie!

ciao

P.S. The Lorax also made a zine. It is called 'Little Yellow Umbrella'. It looks like this:

Frequently Asked Questions [that no one actually asked but we feel like answering them anyway]

Q. What the hell is this??

We are collecting Macquarie students doodles to publish in our zine as part of a community art project that celebrates students doodles.

Q. What the hell is a "zine"??

A small circulation publication usually made with a photocopier by individuals or small groups. It's basically an underground, indie kinda thing. Look it up in Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zine) or Urbandictionary (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=zine). It's pronounced "zeene".

Q. What do you mean by "doodles"?

Any kind of scribbled drawing in your lecture notes that you or friends have done. We also stretch the term to include caricatures, song lyrics, written conversations you've had with friends during class, initials of people you're infatuated with inside tiny love hearts, rants, hitlists and just about ANYTHING that is not your actual uni work.

Q. How can I contribute mine?

There are three ways:

  • Contact us at macdoodlezine@gmail.com to organise to meet on campus to give us a photocopy of your doodle. Or the original if you want.

Q. Will I be paid?

Hell no. We are transgressing the capitalist ideals and working outside its boundaries. Therefore, money has shit all to do with anything we do.

Q. Will I be recognised for my artistic talents?

If you request recognition, sure, why not? However we want to primarily use anonymous contributions, similar to that of Postsecret: http://postsecret.blogspot.com/

Q. When will it be published? How can I get a copy?

We are currently working on a first issue comprised of our own doodles which should be finished by mid-November '08. The next one we are hoping will be next semester, providing of course we get enough response from YOU! Contact us for a copy - it's free: macdoodlezine@gmail.com

Q. I have a question to ask that isn't answered here. Or, I want to abuse/praise you. What can I do?
